iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPhone 4
Most common repairs on iPhones are broken front panels. The iPhone has a glass layer which is called the digitizer or touch panel which detects inputs of your fingers and used for navigation purposes. Underneath this layer is the LCD screen which displays the images on your phone. If your LCD screen is "bleeding" or has large black blobs, then the LCD screen is broken and needs to be replaced. If it is just the glass panel/digitizer that is broken and the LCD screen is fine, then only the touch panel needs replacing. Needless to say, if both are broken, then both parts will require replacing.
With the iPhone 4, Apple has fused both the LCD screen and digitizer touch panels together and is impossible to separate the two. This means that regardless of just the LCD screen or digitizer is broken, they will both need to be replaced at the same time as one complete assembly. We don't know why other sellers would even offer the parts separately as we have seen some do this.

Another common problem is when the iPod Touch is no longer holding its charge and requires constant recharging which indicates that a new iPod battery is required.
With the iPod touch 4th generation, Apple has fused both the LCD screen and digitizer touch panels together through a very strong adhesive. This means that both the LCD and digitizer needs to be replaced regardless of which is broken.
